WooCommerce product data readiness checklist

A WooCommerce audit should check how product fields, variations, extensions and theme output work together. Feed plugins may map data differently from the product page, so verify the actual page and exported channel record rather than assuming one is a copy of the other.

1. Validate simple and variable products

For each sampled product, check the product name, SKU, global identifiers where available, category, images, description, price, sale schedule and stock status. For variable products, inspect each variation’s identifier, price, availability, attributes and image. Confirm that the selected variation matches what is visible to the shopper.

2. Inspect Product and Offer markup

Review the rendered page’s structured data for the correct product and selected offer. Compare name, image, currency, price, availability and variant details with the visible page. WooCommerce documents its structured data and rich snippets; extensions and themes can affect the final markup, so inspect the live output.

3. Check feed mappings and channel values

Review the feed plugin or channel integration’s attribute mapping. Make sure the feed uses the intended source for identifiers, product category, brand, price, sale price, availability and destination URL. Check whether category-level defaults or variation-level values take precedence, and compare the generated record with the live storefront. WooCommerce’s Google for WooCommerce feed guide describes how product data is synced for that channel.

4. Check plugin overlap and cache effects

If more than one plugin emits Product schema or product feeds, check for duplicate markup and conflicting prices or availability. After changing a mapping or product, clear only the relevant page/feed caches and verify the public page and exported record again.

5. Sample across categories and document evidence

Include products from multiple categories, in-stock and out-of-stock cases, sale pricing, and both simple and variable products. Record each URL, the observed page values, the corresponding structured data and the feed value. Fix high-impact shared mappings first, then recheck the same products.

Start small: use Lumen’s free product data scorecard or three-product scan. The paid assessment is a bounded sample; review its scope and price.
